Dr. Dre’s classic album The Chronic will be inducted into The National Recording Registry of The Library of Congress.
The album dropped in 1992 as Dr. Dre’s debut album and solidified the rapper as a solo-act and west-coast gangster music legend. Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You, Tina Turner’s Private Dancer, and Selena’s Ven Conmigo are also among the 25 new titles to receive the archival honor.
“The National Recording Registry is the evolving playlist of the American soundscape. It reflects moments in history captured through the voices and sounds of the time,” says Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden on the LOC official website. She named the records important due to their cultural, historical and aesthetic importance to the country’s recorded sound heritage.
In other achievements, Dr. Dre remains one of hip-hop’s biggest ballers. The rapper/producer/business mogul came in only behind Jay-Z on Forbes 2019 ‘Richest Rappers’ list.
