The Chicago Bulls have one of the best benches in the league. On paper we all know they’re legit. But injuries have kept them at bay for most of the season. They have shown great strength against the Milwaukee Bucks this past week. Threatening to sweep the Bucks. Everyday I get more and more confident about the Chicago Bulls making the Finals. But what I have found interesting about the Bulls this year is how they haven’t used Doug McDermott at all this season. I’ve barely seen him. I know he’s a Rookie and all but come on! It’s Dougie McBuckets!
McDermott talked to the Chicago Sun Times recently talking about the lack of minutes. And also how there has been word that his dad has been ringing the Bulls up, complaining about his sons lack of minutes.
“Trust me, I heard it,’’ Doug McDermott said, acknowledging that it was bothersome.
“I actually talked to my dad right after someone brought that to my attention in the locker room,’’ he continued. “I called him up and I was just kind of laughing almost. He was like, ‘What are you laughing about?’ I said, ‘You hear this rumor going out that you called the front office and stuff?’ He started laughing.’’
“My dad would never do that,’’ Doug McDermott said. “He’s a coach, and he has to deal with parents all the time, calling him up all the time. Boosters, parents, calling all the time about playing time, everything. He would never do that. He has too much respect for the coaches here, [general manager] Gar [Forman] and Pax [VP of basketball operations John Paxson], all those guys. He would never do that.’’
Now I don’t think his dad would go out of his way just to ring up the Bulls to whine about minutes. He’s just one of those players that aren’t called upon. But he’ll get his chance. And once he does I’m sure Dougie McBuckets will appear.
