Doug McDermott aka Dougie McBuckets is entering his third year in the NBA with the Chicago Bulls. The former product out of Creighton came into the NBA with his main attribute being his ability to stretch the floor and shoot from deep. He’s a knockdown shooter but hasn’t received proper recognition for his skills.
The NBA’s Three-Point contest would be a prime place for McDermott to showcase his range but he still hasn’t been invited to the event. This season, Doug wants to change that. He wants to compete with Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry, J.J. Redick and the other knockdown shooters in the NBA’s Three-Point Contest during the 2017 NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans.
Following from Sean Highkin of The Athletic.
SH: Maybe not the dunk contest, but are you going to do the three-point contest one of these years? Has the NBA asked you to?
DM: Last year I got snubbed. This year, I kind of want to start a campaign. We should get it trending. I can’t be going 0-for-3. I think last year I was like fifth or sixth in [three-point] percentage and they took a couple guys ahead of me. I was just like, “Come on.” (Editor’s note: McDermott shot 42.5 percent from three-point range last season, tied for fifth in the league with Klay Thompson, who won the three-point contest in Toronto.)
McDermott will get viable playing time on this Bulls team considering he is possibly the team’s best shooter. Sure, they’ve started off great with their three-point shooting but can it remain consistent from Rajon Rondo, Dwyane Wade and Jimmy Butler? McDermott can be that consistent deep threat. Hopefully D Wade will live up to his end of the jersey swap deal and get McDermott some open shots.
