The 2012-13 NBA season is primed for the Philadelphia 76ers to make a giant leap towards the top of the Eastern Standings. Last year’s 8th seed, and first-round playoff series win against a depleted Bulls team, is history. The East standings – with the exception of Miami, of course – are wide open, Boston got better (but remained old), the Nets acquired talent (but doubts still abound), while the Bulls seem to have set themselves back two seasons with their (lack) of moves.
The 76ers are in a good position to catapult up the standings, especially after the addition of the league’s second best center, Andrew Bynum. Head coach Doug Collins says he likes the look of his team moving forward.
“My mind is always going and I am a crossword puzzle guy, how to solve a puzzle,” Collins. “We have new pieces and I like our pieces. Anytime you change your team you have to give up talent and we lost an incredible professional in Elton Brand, we lost a tremendous all-star, Olympian and world champion Andre Iguodala. We lost one of the best sixth men in the NBA in Lou Williams and lost a guy who helped us win a lot of games in Jodie Meeks.”
