
Donny Hathaway is slated to be recognized with a special honor.
The Recording Academy has announced its 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award, Trustees Award, and Technical GRAMMY Award recipients.
According to the Recording Academy, the Lifetime Achievement Award, “celebrates performers who have made outstanding contributions of artistic significance to the field of recording.”
The Trustees Award, “honors such contributions in areas other than performance,” and the Technical GRAMMY Award is given to individuals and companies who have made, “contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording industry.”
Legendary soul singer Donny Hathaway is among the list of artists to be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Hathaway is receiving the honor on the 40th anniversary of his untimely passing. The musician is most known for his classic records such as “Someday We’ll All Be Free” and “This Christmas.”
In addition to Hathaway, Dionne Warwick, George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, Black Sabbath, Billy Eckstine, Julio Iglesias, and Sam & Dave are also recipients of the prestigious award.
Recipients of the Trustees Award are Lou Adler, Ashford & Simpson, and Johnny Mandel. Saul Walker is the Technical GRAMMY Award recipient.
The official ceremony and concert for the honorees will take place in Los Angeles on May 11, 2019.
