Former President Donald Trump has issued a statement after a shooting during his most recent campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania has left at least two people dead and one other person injured.
“I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania,” former President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.”
On Saturday, July 13, thousands gathered in Butler, Pennsylvania as the former President addressed his supporters. While delivering remarks to the crowd, he reached for his neck and shortly thereafter, attendees noticed a blood began to appear around his near and neck. According to legal analyst Jeffrey Evan Gold, he was hit by glass after a bullet hit his teleprompter. To the contrary, Trump says he “was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of [his] right ear.” Immediately afterward, he was escorted off stage and to a medical facility for further evaluation.
Trump is said to be “fine” after receiving medical treatment. However, the shooting left two people dead, including the shooter and a rally attendee. Additionally, a third person was wounded and there is no further word on their condition. The identities of both deceased and wounded are not available to the public at this time.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the crime scene and will provide additional updates.
