During the two years that Donald Trump has been in office, he has made a number of claims about what he believes is plaguing the United States of America. Over time, Donald Trump has argued that immigration, economic instability and a number of other issues are keeping America from becoming great again. Among the number of issues he believes to be plaguing the country, voter fraud is near the top. As a result, he has teamed up with the DOJ to make a move on his beliefs.
In 2016, Donald Trump claimed that millions of votes were cast illegally during the presidential election. During the following year, Donald Trump formed a voter fraud commission to investigate the issues he alleged following the election. The commission was quickly disbanded after it failed to find evidence to support allegations of widespread voter fraud.
Keeping in line with Trump’s suspicion of voter fraud, the United States Department of Justice has announced that it will deploy officials to thirty-five different polling stations in nineteen different states. Ultimately, the goal is to “monitor compliance with the federal voting rights laws.” Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued a statement that states that the Department of Justice will use “every lawful tool that we have, both civil and criminal, to protect the rights of millions of Americans to cast their vote.” He later noted that voter fraud “will not be tolerated.”
The polling stations that will be monitored are located in Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Virginia.
Donald Trump supported the move in a tweet that read, “Law Enforcement has been strongly notified to watch closely for any illegal voting which may take place in Tuesday’s Election.”
