The Los Angeles Clippers took a huge blow in free agency by losing their starting Center and one of the best defensive players in the NBA, DeAndre Jordan. Now it is on to the next one. With Doc Rivers, Paul Pierce, Chris Paul, J.J Redick, and Blake Griffin still in tact, there is still hope for this squad to turn out good.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, JaVale McGee could be an option to replace Jordan.
Free-agent center JaVale McGee is a serious consideration for the Los Angeles Clippers, and plans to have a telephone conversation with president and coach Doc Rivers on Saturday, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
The Clippers, who lost center DeAndre Jordan to the Dallas Mavericks in free agency, are taking a strong look at McGee, league sources told Yahoo Sports. The Clippers have roughly $2.2 million in exception space left to pay a player beyond the league’s minimum salary slot of $1.4 million.
For McGee, the Clippers could be an opportunity with a contender to re-start his career. McGee had a couple promising years with the Washington Wizards and Denver Nuggets before injuries and inconsistent play limited him to just 28 games over the past two seasons. The Nuggets traded him, along with a first-round draft pick, to the Philadelphia 76ers midway through last season. He played in six games for the 76ers before being waived.
JaVale McGee is the closest thing to a poor mans DeAndre Jordan as you could get. Except he’s a little bit better at free throws. He is known for his freakish athletic ability, shot blocking ability, and he is definitely a good person to throw an alley-oop to. Offensively and defensively, the Clippers wouldn’t change. Except the fact that JaVale McGee has poor basketball I.Q, and may not gel well with the other teammates. Who knows, could this be JaVale’s final chance to prove his abilities?
