The Los Angeles Clippers have seemed to have found their swing. But they do that in every regular season. Remember when they won 17 in a row? No? Oh that’s right. Because they bombed in the Playoffs.
They are the Gonzaga of the NBA. They do so well in the regular season. Soon as the words ‘NBA Playoffs’ get slapped onto the court they’re standing on. They get cold feet. It is why nobody rates them in the preseason. Because they have yet to prove themselves in the Playoffs.
Which is why when Doc Rivers talked about the current Playoff system which is flawed. I chuckled a tad I’m not going to lie.
“That’s a flaw,” Rivers said. “I think the divisions are important. They’re nice to have. They’re nice to be celebrated, for some and some not, but I don’t know if they should be celebrated as far as in the standings. I think it’s something that the league will absolutely look at and try to fix. You shouldn’t be rewarded if your record [isn’t as good as others].“
“I just think if you tie with us, let’s say if we had gone undefeated against a team but our records are tied and they would get home court, that to me is insane,” Rivers said. “That’s worse in some ways to me, because head-to-head should always go first. But there’s flaws and you fix them, and I think the league will look at that.“
The Western Conference is stupidly packed. I find it interesting to be honest. What’s better than a tight race for dominance? This would be even better if they didn’t base the Playoffs by conference. So the top 16 records in the league play for the prize. Can’t wait until that is implemented.
