As many believe that it was Donald Sterling’s voice on the recorded conversation, Doc Rivers has joined the masses as well. The Clippers coach shared his thoughts on the recording today (April 28).
“Yeah, I believe he said those things”
“I just would like to reiterate how disappointed I am in those comments that are attributed to our owner,” Rivers said. “I can’t tell you how upset I am and our players are.”
“I think this is a defining moment, but I think we’ll have more defining moments,” Rivers said. “I think this is a very important decision. I hope that it’s a very strong message, and I believe that it will be. But other than that, I’m just going to let the league do what it needs to do. And then after that, I think the players and myself will have a reaction.”
Practice was cancelled for the Clippers today, but the team showed up anyway, and here’s what Doc had to say:
“The reason [for no practice] is for the players. I just felt like they needed to breathe,” Rivers said. “They’ve been inundated with this. They’ve really had no time with their families. I just think they need time.
“Obviously in most cases, we would be practicing on the floor and doing a lot of stuff today. I’m at the facility and I would say all of the players are here anyway. I’ll go down and talk to them and make sure they’re in the right place.”
When asked about what the fans should do Doc replied:
“I hope whatever the fans do is as one,” Rivers said. “As one group. Just do it and be one. … But I don’t even know if that’s the right thing, but I think it is.”
