DMX has reportedly finalized a new deal to return to Def Jam. According to a report from All Hip Hop, the deal was reached earlier this year. Initial speculation indicates that DMX’s first project on the new deal will be a Christmas album. As a result, the album is expected to be released during the fourth quarter or in early 2020.
Previously, DMX has worked with the record label on some of his most iconic works. During the prime of his career, DMX was featured in Def Jam themed video games. In addition, he released his multi-platinum selling album, It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot on Def Jam.
Outside of music, All Hip Hop reports that Def Jam will be “active and hands on with the rapper who has had numerous personal challenges and stints in jail.” The New York rapper was released from jail in January after serving time for tax evasion.
Since his release from jail, DMX has steadily worked toward regaining the success of his past projects. Most recently, he worked with Swizz Beatz and Rick Ross on the song, “Just In Case”.
DMX has yet to officially comment on the report.
