On July 14th, Iowa Native DJ Carton made the decision to become a Buckeye as he stated he would take his basketball talents to Ohio State University.
Coming out of Bettendorf, Iowa the 6’1 prospect was recruited by many different college powerhouses. Of the many schools, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio State stood at the top for Carton going into his decision day.
This is a huge pickup for the Buckeyes as Carton was ranked third on 247Sports list of top point guards in the nation.

Even though Carton only stands at 189 pounds, he was easily able to out-muscle opposing point guards in high school and AAU. His strength should continue against college-level competition as he will have better training.
With his strength comes a lot of explosiveness on the court. His 40 inch vertical will help him rise over defenders for easy baskets and easy rebounds.
Carton’s strength and explosiveness help him on both sides of the ball, as he is looked at as an elite defender. His strength and speed help him defend guards of all sizes, and his vertical will allow him to be an elite shot blocker. Who wouldn’t want that from their point guard?
In a feature by the Des Moines Register, Carton said the life of a five-star athlete “is not easy, But I feel like it’s definitely made me mature throughout this whole process and really helped me as a man.”
Like many top prospects, Carton will look to bring as much as possible to this year’s Buckeye squad.
