Insurgent, the sequel to Divergent will be in 3D.
Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment will release the film in both 3D and 2D on March 20, 2015.
Producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher said this about Insurgent:
“The second film in the Divergent franchise takes the story and action to another level, and by partnering with RealD, we were able to blend gripping performances and mind- blowing spectacle to create a unique event on screen.
We cannot wait to share this with the world!”
The sequel will continue to follow Tris [Shailene Woodley], who is now searching for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago.
Tris and Four [Theo James] are now fugitives on the run, being followed by Jeanine [Kate Winslet], the leader of the power-hungry Erudite Elite.
With time not on their side, Four and Tris are on the search to find out what Tris’ family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders are trying to stop them.
Based on the best-selling series by Veronica Roth, the film also stars Octavia Spencer, Ansel Elgort, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, and Mekhi Phifer.
The first Divergent film earned nearly $300 million worldwide.
The third and fourth installments in the franchise, Allegiant — Parts 1 and 2, are slated for release on March 18, 2016, and March 24, 2017, respectively.
