According to multiple reports, the film will be a musical starring Richie’s work, but it will not be a biopic. Rather, The Hollywood Reporter has compared the vision of the project to Mama Mia! In the past, bands like Abba and The Beatles have put together musicals around their work.
The untitled film is just the latest extension of Richie’s partnership with Disney. Richie currently works as a host for the Disney owned show, American Idol.
At the moment, there are no casting developments or a time table for when the film will see the light of day.
