Dallas Mavericks power forward Dirk Nowitzki, at the age of 37, is not exactly a young player. Nonetheless, Nowitzki, who has been the model of a player who ages well, has had a phenomenal season for the Mavs. He plans on sticking around in Dallas for at least one more year, reports ESPN‘s Tim McMahon:
Dirk says he plans to pick up the player option in his contract for next season. "I always said I wanted to play those 3 years to the end."

Dirk: "In my mind, after we won the championship, it was always clear I will retire a Mav." But he wants no part of a rebuilding project.

Personally, I love to see players who are so loyal to a franchise. Players like that are a dying breed in today’s NBA. It makes perfect sense that Dirk doesn’t want any part of a rebuild. He knows that his NBA days are limited. Why on earth would he want to spend the rest of his career on a losing team?
In 65 appearances for the Mavs(all starts) this season, Nowitzki has averaged 18.8 points, 6.7 rebounds while shooting 46.4% from the field, 38.6% from deep, and 89.3% from the charity stripe
