Along with a friendly personality, a championship ring, and one of the most unstoppable shots in basketball history, something that Dirk Nowitzki is known for is his loyalty. The German-born seven-footer just wrapped up his 18th NBA season, all of which he has spent with the Dallas Mavericks. Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant faces a tough free agency decision this Summer. The ever-loyal Nowitzki doesn’t see why Durant would leave a great situation in OKC
Dirk Nowitzki, a legend who spent his whole career with one franchise, sees no reason why Kevin Durant should switch teams this summer: “He wants to play to win. He’s got a great group of guys there in OKC. They’ve got everything going. They’ve got youth, they’ve got talent, they’ve got athleticism. He’s got a superstar player next to him. They’re loaded where he’s at.”
The Thunder(then the Seattle Supersonics) drafted Durant second overall in 2007, and he has now played nine seasons with the franchise. Durant is the best scorer in basketball, and if he does want to leave OKC, any team would be ecstatic to acquire him. However, Nowitzki makes a good point. Durant is already on a fantastic team that has shown they can compete; they went up 3-1 on what is perhaps the best team of all time.
Durant is already paired up with another superstar in Russell Westbrook, and the team’s other complementary pieces —Serge Ibaka, Steven Adams, Dion Waiters, Andre Roberson, etc.– aren’t too shabby either.
Durant will likely stay in Oklahoma City, at least for one more year.
