The Miami Heat were one of the more surprising teams in the NBA this season in a season full of surprises. Erik Spoelstra coached well all year, but another positive was the surpassing play of Dion Waiters. He played a pivotal role in Miami’s late season push for the playoffs, providing plenty of highlight moments.
Waiters officially opted out of his contract with the Heat to test the market, according to the Miami Herald. This comes as no surprise, especially as Waiter increased his value throughout the season. He averaged 15.8 points per game, just shy of his career high, and shot nearly 40% from behind the arc. He proved a go-to scorer for the Heat, and has voiced his desire to stay in South Beach.
Miami feels the same way. They too have shown interest in a reunion, though it must be at the right price point. They were briefly concerned that Waiters may join the Lakers as he has past connections with their new general manager, Rob Pelinka. It appears that worry has past. They are now focusing on getting him back for next season, as long as they don’t have to back up any Brink’s trucks.
