We are inching closer and closer to the beginning of the free agency period in less than one month. Perhaps no upcoming free agent has inexplicably had more rumors surrounding him recently than the one, the only Dion Waiters.
The Miami Heat shooting guard had a career year last season, showcasing newfound playmaking and defensive abilities while still being able to put up points. Now a free agent, Waiters is looking to make some hard-earned cash with a big contract.
Recent reports have indicated that Heat are worried about a potentially lucrative offer from the Los Angeles Lakers to sign Waiters. Given the Lakers’ seemingly adamant decision to pursue Paul George in free agency, it’s unclear how legitimate those rumblings are. Nevertheless, what we learned from it is that Heat are not looking to overpay to keep their Philly Cheese Swag shooting guard in town.
Fortunately for them, they may not have to. Speaking to WSVN’s 7 Sports Xtra, Waiters indicated that he may be willing to give a little hometown discount to his incumbent team.

“It depends,” he said Sunday. “Yeah, I would, though. But, like I said, it depends, just being the right thing, at the right time. It’s just got to be right. It’s got to be equal.”
That’s good news for Heat president Pat Riley who seems to want Waiters back.
