The family of Dijon Kizzee has released the findings of an independent autopsy. An independent autopsy finding found that Kizzee was struck 15 times by police, but did not die instantly.
“He did not die instantly, he was writhing on the ground in pain when officers opened up on him,” Attorney Carl Douglas said.
Kizzee was killed during a traffic stop on August 31, 2020. The Los Angeles resident was stopped for allegedly riding a bicycle in the wrong direction. After authorities stopped him, a struggle ensued between the officers and Kizzee that resulted in a fatal shooting.
Kizzee was hit seven times in his back side, arms and hands. The fatal shot hit the Black cyclist in his lung. Dr. John Hiserodt’s reports indicate that Kizzee bled to death after his lungs filled up with blood. Dr. Hiserodt also found that Kizzee was shot while writhing on the ground in pain.
“The independent autopsy supports my contention that this shooting was an execution, plain and simple,” Douglas stated.
“You can tell by the audio of the shooting that there were three or four shots, and then a pause, and 15 additional shots,” Douglas added.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department also reported that Kizzee had a handgun at the time of his death. However, video of the incident does not clearly show Kizzee holding a gun in his hand at the time he was shot.
LASD has not yet issued a statement regarding the independent autopsy.
