It’s been a long time since Diggy Simmons released a full length album. The last time the New Jersey native released an album, Barack Obama was in his first term, Kendrick Lamar was still working on Good Kid, m.A.a.d City and Lebron James was still a member of the Miami Heat. Not to mention, Simmons was only sixteen at the time.
Since his debut album, Unexpected Arrival, Simmons has largely stuck to dropping new music here and there, but never truly remaining consistent. Simmons has explained his absence from music by tweeting, “I haven’t released a music project in six years. [It’s] all due to overthinking [about] my ideas, my OCD, being too invested in the unknown and fear of an uncertain outcome. For years, I let my [irrational thoughts] and the negative perception of others overcome what I perceived of myself.”
This week, Diggy Simmons has decided to put his fears behind him and take a step out on faith. He’s announced that his album is completed and he has released his first single off of the new album called “It Is What It Is”. Fans of Simmons can also check out a video for the first single as well. You can check out both above as he prepares for the release of his first album in six years.
