Left hander Vidal Nuno will also be headed to Seattle. The Diamondbacks will receive catcher Wellington Castillo, pitcher Dominic Leone, and a pair of low level prospects. Looking at this trade in a vacum it appears the Mariners are big time winners in this deal.
Trumbo will remain under team control through 2016 while making 6.9 million in 2015 through the arbitration process. Trumbo adds a power bat to the Seattle lineup that was desperately needed. Trumbo has 9 home runs on the season providing more protection in the lineup for the incumbent Nelson Cruz, and Robinson Cano. Seattle will look to make up ground in the AL West with this move being behind the Houston Astros by 9 games.
The Diamondbacks acquire a pitcher in Leone who has had a rough start to his 2015 season. With an 0-4 record the 23 year old will look to turn things around in the national league. The trade of Trumbo also always the team to give more playing time to younger outfielders in A.J. Pollock, Ender Inciarte, and David Peralta.
