In Dedmon’s absence, the Hawks’ starting center will likely be rookie big John Collins.
Dedmon, 28, is in his first season with the Hawks; he signed on a two-year, $14 million contract after an impressive year as a backup for the San Antonio Spurs.
The 7-foot center has averaged 11.1 points and 7.8 rebounds (both career highs) per contest in 20 games with the Hawks this season. He’s also shooting 60.1 percent from the floor and an absurd 48.3 percent on 3-pointers, albeit on just 1.5 attempts per game.
Dedmon is the Hawks starting center, and they’ll struggle in his absence. I mean, they struggle regardless; they’re 4-16, giving them the second-worst record in the NBA.
Dedmon played two seasons at the University of Southern California before going undrafted in 2013.
Prior to playing for the Spurs and now Hawks, Dedmon spent time with the Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic.
