San Antonio Spurs center Dewayne Dedmon will decline his player option to opt out of the final year of his contract, per Shams Charania of The Vertical.
Dedmon stood to make just over $3 million next season. He will undoubtedly be offered more than that in free agency.
Dedmon, 27, averaged career-best marks across the board in his first year with the Spurs: Minutes per game (17.5), points per game (5.1), rebounds per game (6.5) and field goal percentage (62.2). He started 40 games for the Spurs, including three in the postseason.
Dedmon should command a sizable contract as a solid rotation big who protects the rim and is active on the boards.
The Spurs signed Dedmon to a two-year, $6 million contract last summer. Obviously, the second year included a player option.
Dedmon went undrafted in 2013 after spending two seasons at USC. Prior to his stint in San Antonio, Dedmon spent time with the Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic while bouncing in and out of the D-League.
In four NBA seasons, Dedmon has amassed career averages of 4.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game.
