Atlanta Hawks center Dewayne Dedmon suffered an avulsion fracture in his left foot and will be reevaluated in a week, the Hawks announced:
Atlanta Hawks center Dewayne Dedmon sustained a left ankle injury during a workout on Monday, August 27. An X-ray and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an avulsion fracture and he has been placed in a walking boot. He will be re-evaluated in one week, and his status will be updated as appropriate.
An avulsion fracture occurs when a small chunk of bone attached to a tendon or ligament gets pulled away from the main part of the bone, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Dedmon, 29, played 62 games for the Hawks last year, including 46 starts, after signing a two-year, $14 million deal with the club last summer. It was his first season in Atlanta and the best season of his career. He played 24.9 minutes a night, averaging career-high marks of 10 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while shooting 52.4 percent shooting from the field and 35.5 percent shooting from 3-point range.
Dedmon missed some time last winter with a left tibia stress reaction.
