Dallas Mavericks point guard Devin Harris had surgery on Tuesday morning. From the official press release:
The Dallas Mavericks announced today that guard Devin Harris underwent surgery on both his left great toe and left thumb on Tuesday morning.
The surgery on Harris’s left great toe was performed by Dr. Martin O’Malley while the surgery on his left thumb was executed by Dr. Michelle Carlson. Both surgeries were performed at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
No timetable has been set for Harris’ return, but he said before the season ended that he expects to be ready to play by next season’s training camp.
Harris just finished his twelfth NBA season, and his third in a row(and sixth total) with the Mavs. Harris averaged 7.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 20 minutes per game this season for Dallas. He shot 44.7% from the field, 32.9% from beyond the arc, and 72.1% from the foul line.
Deron Williams, who starts over Harris, also underwent surgery immediately after the Mavs were eliminated from the playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games.
Harris, now 33 years old, has two years left on his contract with the Mavericks. The second remaining year in that contract is a team option.
