2019’s weirdest and most intriguing movie just got a new trailer. The latest look at Ryan Reynolds in Detective Pikachu is definitely much more action-packed than the first. However, the funny, nostalgic weirdness from the first trailer is more present (and welcome) than ever.
We don’t get many plot specifics from the trailer. Reynold’s Pikachu wakes up with no memory of where he is wearing a hat with the name ‘Harry Goodman’ written in it. Harry, it turns out, is Tim’s (Justice Smith) missing father and this is what brings the two together. Pikachu then enlists Tim, after some convincing, to help him discover his past while in the meantime searching for Tim’s father. From there the trailer shows us a montage of the film’s action sequences. We get a quick look at Kathryn Newton’s Lucy Stevens, a reporter who gets involved with Tim and Pikachu’s investigation. Finally, the trailer ends with a short shot showing fan-favorite Pokemon, Mew-Two in action.

Monday, Reynolds also released ‘Becoming Pikachu,’ a vlog of sorts promoting the film. He and his wife, actress Blake Lively, share Reynolds’ secrets for getting into character as Pikachu. If you want to see that, check it out here.
Detective Pikachu stars Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Ken Watanabe, and Karan Soni, it releases on May 10, 2019.
