Showtime

The brand is back and better than ever. At the end of 2018, viewers were left were wondering what would happen with Desus & Mero after their relationship with Viceland turned sour. After a few weeks of uncertainty, it was announced that the dynamic duo would land back at Showtime. A few months have passed since the announcement was made and the time has come for the return of the most illustrious show in late night, Desus & Mero. The Kid Mero and Desus Nice debuted their new show on Showtime with special guest Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and cameos from Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib. If you couldn’t catch last night’s season premiere, here’s a quick recap of everything that went down.

Per usual, the Bronx natives opened up their show with the week’s biggest stories and a few random bits of news. However, things are a bit different on Showtime. Instead of viral videos, the two commented on everything from Zion Williamson‘s most recent injury to Barack Obama’s comments on modern dancing and displays of wealth. Soon thereafter, we got into the two biggest moments of the show, “The Greenest Book” and a spotlight on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

With the 91st Academy Awards around the corner, it only makes sense that the most illustrious show in late night add their two cents on the race for “Best Picture”. In doing so, the two poked fun at one of the favorites to win the “Best Picture” race, Green Book. During their first skit on the new show, Desus & Mero made fun of the ways in which race was portrayed in the film. Not to mention, we get to see The Kid Mero play the role of a white, Italian man.

After poking fun at Green Book, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hopped on set for their first interview. During their short discussion, the New York congresswoman spoke about the Green New Deal, taxes and adjusting to life on Capitol Hill. Later on, Desus & Mero take a trip down to the nation’s capital to visit Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s office. In addition, they are visited by Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib.
