Long-time Atlanta Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant was waived on the first day of the brand new NFL year, but it didn’t take him long to find his new home. According to ESPN’s Jordan Schultz, Trufant will sign a two-year deal worth $21 million with the Detroit Lions.

One of the better coverage cornerbacks in the NFL, Desmond Trufant spent the first seven years of his career with the Falcons after being drafted with the 22nd overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Trufant made the Pro Bowl once in 2015.
Trufant will join the Detroit Lions now on a two-year deal which came at a relatively cheap price for a starting cornerback. In a division with receivers including Davante Adams, Adam Thielen and Allen Robinson, the Lions will need a shutdown cornerback to bolster their back end. All-Pro cornerback Darius Slay is expected to move on from the Lions this offseason.
