Desiree Perez has been appointed as the new CEO of Roc Nation. Former Roc Nation CEO Jay Brown will become the Vice Chairman of Roc Nation. In Brown’s new role, he “will continue to cultivate partnerships and expand the breadth of Roc Nation as a global powerhouse.” As for Perez, she will “will lead development and growth across all aspects of Roc Nation including music, management, all new business development, philanthropy, publishing, touring and TV and film development.”
In a press release following the announcement, Perez thanked Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter for his help throughout this portion of her career. She said, “You’ve taught me to trust myself to do what’s right and not what’s easiest.” Perez also thanked Roc Nation Sports’ Juan Perez, Roc Nation co-founder Ty Smith and her husband.
The news comes just days after she was named Billboard’s Women In Music Executive Of The Year. At the awards ceremony, Brown described Perez as a “real-life Wonder Woman” and spoke to her humanitarian efforts. He added that Perez is a “fearless, champion and she saves the day.”
Roc Nation currently works with everyone from J. Cole to Angie Martinez. Outside of music and sports, the entertainment giant takes on philanthropic efforts such as 21 Savage’s ongoing immigration battle.
