Clemson’s Deshaun Watson is one of the most sought after quarterbacks heading into the 2017 NFL Draft. After deciding to skip the Reese’s Senior Bowl, many pundits expected Watson to not throw at the Combine either. Watson shared his intentions in regard to the Combine via NFL Network.
“I can just go out there and compete and just be the quarterback that I am,” Watson said. “I don’t want to get too focused on what I have to show or what I need to do, because I think I’d lose track of doing the little things. Doing the little things right, completing passes, doing whatever the coaching staffs want me to do at the combine, and just go out there and show what I’ve got.”
A lot of players usually decide to throw at their pro day instead of the combine because they can control certain variables such as the receivers they are throwing to. I’ve always supported quarterbacks throwing at the combine because you just want to see them compete and let it rip. Who cares about completions, I’m more concerned with footwork and mechanics more than anything. The combine is the best place to do just that.
