DeSean Jackson inked a three year, $24 million deal with the Redskins last offseason after being released by Philadelphia. Jackson was in the midst of a 4 year, $51 million deal with the Eagles prior to his release. On the debut episode of his new reality TV show, “DeSean Jackson Home Team” on BET, the Washington Redskins receiver didn’t speak so highly about his former squad.
“When I was released by the Eagles, I feel they tried to paint a picture that definitely wasn’t true. It was a slap in the face, coming off one of my best seasons in the NFL,” Jackson said, via ESPN.com’s John Keim.
“The Eagles tried to blow me up. That’s cold how they did it,” he told friends during the show, one of whom offered that Philadelphia tried to “persecute” Jackson.
“That’s why I think they fired me. Have I went to jail? … I ain’t done none of that,” he replied.
A report from NJ.com surfaced last year that suggested the speedy wide out was connected to an alleged gang. The report may have lead to his release even though Jackson repeatedly denied those allegations following his release.
“I was at the top of the top. And then I got released. … It was a smear campaign,” he said. “Things media said about me, I bet you could say that about the majority of people in the NFL. I got a second chance to play in the NFL and I’m proving I’m one of the best receivers in the game.”
Jackson is still respected by the league being ranked the 50th best player in 2014. Although he may be living of the life a reality TV star, Jackson claims the entire NFC East better be on notice for when the Skins come to town.
“I don’t care too much about the Cowboys. I’m called a Cowboy killer,” Jackson said when asked at one point for his thoughts on Dallas. “They call me the Cowboy killer. I’m a Giants killer, I’m aCowboys killer, now I’m an Eagles killer, too.”
DeSean had 9 catches for 243 yards (27.0 per catch) with one touchdown against the Eagles in 2014. The two divisional foes will play each other in weeks 4 and 16.
