Here is another classic case of a player missing his previous team even though at first glance the player thought he was going to a better gig.
Before this season Derrick Williams was at Sacramento and at the end of said season, he actually looked good! He was showing improvement, he was dunking on people it was all good for Williams. But then he went to New York to play for the Knicks. He now realises that his gig in Sacramento was better, saying to the NY Post that he misses Sac and doesn’t even know why he always gets benched by Derek Fisher.
Derrick Williams felt he improved in Sacramento, which he called “a great basketball town’’ and “great for my career.’’
“I haven’t talked to [Fisher] about it,’’ Williams said Wednesday. “It’s his choice. I can’t really argue with the coach’s decisions, minutes and things like that. It comes from the coaching staff. I try whenever I’m in the game, I try to make an impact. That’s the only thing I can do.’’
Alright, firstly I reject the premise that Sacramento is “a great basketball town”. Miss me with that. And secondly, ask him what’s up. There’s no point in wondering and not knowing what the problem is.
Williams even goes out to talk about how great his previous coach, George Karl was.
“He’s a good coach,’’ Williams said. “He wasn’t really tough like that. That was one game. He expects a lot of things out of me. I think that’s always good, when you have a coach that really expects things out of you, wants to bring out the best in you. Myself and him, we talked about it. It was no hard feelings with the quotes. That happens when a coach expects a lot of you. At the end of the day, he wasn’t too, too hard on me. He wanted the best out of me.
“He’s a great guy. I really thrived under him.’’
Okay then! Fisher will really like that way to go Derrick!
Now I don’t want to give off the impression that Williams just really wants to be back in Sacramento, I mean he had interviews with Washington and Dallas so he did take the Knicks over clearly better teams. It was mainly for Phil Jackson and not Derek Fisher but it turns out the coach is a little more important than the guy who lords over everything.
