The people at USA Basketball have found out a smart way to get a quality team and actually find some chemistry. We watched Team USA in 2012, dubbing them as “The Dream Team 2.0”. But obviously the US won’t have a chance to say that everytime the Olympics come around, in those cases you see the 2004 US team. Don’t want that again.
Which is why players have to go to a minicamp in Las Vegas to declare their interest in representing the USA in Rio Di Janiero next summer. Derrick Rose has the chance to go for it next summer and help get the gold. But he’s wondering whether rest is the way to go.
Rose has indicated in the past that he would like to play for Team USA in the Olympics, but sources told ESPNChicago.com that he is weighing the potential benefits of taking more time off before the start of Bulls training camp in late September.
?Rose was on track to play for the 2012 Olympic team that won gold at the London Games before tearing the ACL in his left knee in Chicago’s first game of the 2012 playoffs.
USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo has said repeatedly in recent weeks that attendance is mandatory for players who wish to be considered for the 12-man roster that will represent the United States at the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.
I would rest. I don’t think Rose can risk it next summer. I mean he can go for it now but who’s to say that he won’t be injured next year? If I was Rose I think my international career is over, strictly because of injuries. But I’m not Rose so we’ll see.
