The Cleveland Cavaliers have a strict rotation plan for starting point guard Derrick Rose, a plan Rose has never before seen in his 10-year NBA career, according to a new report from ESPN.com.
The report, which comes from Cavaliers writer Dave McMenamin, states that Rose will be held to a strict 28-to-31 minutes per game limit in an effort to lower the risk of any potential injury.
“Let me say, for one, I’m just happy to be a part of this team, part of something that I think is special,” Rose told ESPN. “A minute restriction, there’s nothing I can do about that. But with me having all these injuries in my past, I’m kind of used to it. But whatever the team sees and the staff sees and they want me to do, that’s what I’m going to cooperate with and just go about it the right way.”
Rose has suffered a handful of significant injuries during his career, including multiple season-ending injuries. Last year, his season was cut short after he tore the meniscus in his left knee.
Rose has filled in as the team’s starting point guard and will continue to do so until All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas returns from injury. The Cavaliers are hopeful Thomas can return by mid-January.
