On this Veterans Day or Armistice Day or Remembrance Day. Depending on where you are in the world. We all take a moment to remember the people that fight for our respective countries.
But even though we take this day to reflect on the past. We rarely attempt to look in our own futures, let alone the sportsmen and women we watch everyday. We forget that their lives go on way after thier final bucket, touchdown, serve. Even though they seem fine. For some stars, there are sometimes where you have to think about life after sport, even though you have years to come.
Derrick Rose. Is one of them. Even though he has probably 7-8 years left. The fact he’s had multiple surgeries and isn’t even 30 yet. It’s possible that he’ll have health problems in the long term. And I think he knows that. Why do you think he’s resting?
“I know a lot of people get mad when they see me sit out or whatever, but I think a lot of people don’t understand that when I sit out it’s not because of this year,” Rose said. “I’m thinking about long term. I’m thinking about after I’m done with basketball having graduations to go to, having meetings to go to.
“I don’t want to be in my meetings all sore or be at my son’s graduation all sore just because of something I did in the past. (I’m) just learning and being smart.“
This is totally fine by me. And if you don’t agree. Well you should agree regardless. Even if you’re a Bulls fan. When d’you want him to rest. Now? Or in the Playoffs?
If he doesn’t rest now. There won’t be a chance to until next July.
