Derrick Rose shouldn’t have won that MVP award in 2011. Making him the youngest MVP in NBA History. Yes I am still grinding on that. But hey. NBA History, like I said. All in the past.
Several leg injuries later and Derrick Rose is still trying to find that young, energetic DRose we all went ‘wow’ at. These days we sometimes see those moments of pure ‘wow’ but it’s never a nightly occurrence like back in 2011.
So when Derrick Rose told the Associated Press that he’s still one of the best players in the league. I had to read it twice.
“It’ll be fun,” Rose said. “It’ll give me a chance to go out here and battle with my teammates in the playoffs. The playoffs is a different atmosphere, a different type of setting. I get the opportunity to play the game that I love playing. The intensity is going to be definitely high. I can’t wait to play.”
Does he wonder what might have been had he been healthy the past few years?
“Can’t think about that,” Rose said. “I let that go years ago. (I’m) living in the present and that’s where I’m trying to keep things.
”
“I believe I’m one of the best players in the NBA,” Rose said.
Still?
“Still,” he said.
Mmm no. I’m sorry but you’re probably not even the best player on his own team.
Yes I said it. But I meant it in terms of importance. I don’t think they could win without Joakim Noah. He’s the spirit of that Bulls team. Yes Rose is important and if he wasn’t injury prone he and the Bulls would probably have a ring by now. But as Rose said. Live in the present.
