The Knicks got blown out by 38 points Tuesday night at the hands of the Kings. Now yes, the Knicks are not a very good basketball team, having the worst record in the league, but the Kings aren’t much better.
Sacramento entered last night at 21-37, the sixth worst record in the league. Knicks coach Derek Fisher obviously wasn’t pleased with the final result, but seems to be more displeased with the mind-set his team is currently at.
From the New York Post:
“It was definitely not the level of character and integrity this group has been showing in recent weeks,’’ Fisher said. “That was the most disappointing part. It’s not necessarily losing the game but just the way as a group, we couldn’t find a way to compete.’’
The problems with the Knicks right now is they just aren’t talented, with no starter scoring more than seven points last night, plus they don’t have a “true” leader and are missing their best player, Carmelo Anthony, who decided to shut “it” down for the rest of the season.
New York, however, is in “tank” mode, trying to “play poor for Okafor,” or maybe D’ Angelo Russel, considering Phil Jackson likes talking about him. Losing by 38 though to a team that isn’t much better than you though can’t happen. At some point players just need to have pride.
However, maybe D-Fish has lost the locker room already? I doubt that is the case, but Fisher seems to just be Phil Jackson’s puppet. We saw this week Brian Shaw, another Jackson disciple, get fired in Denver because he lost the locker room.
Again, probably not the case in New York, but the Knicks were just FLAT last night. It’s not like this is really a huge issue anyway considering most of the guys on the roster, most likely won’t be back in New York next year.
