Six years ago, Derek Chisora and Kubrat Pulev met inside of a ring at Barclaycard Arena in Germany. Both men had everything to lose and everything to gain as they sought a shot at the heavyweight title. With everything at stake, Pulev emerged with a hard-fought split decision victory.
Since that fight took place, Pulev has won six of his last seven fights with his sole loss coming at the hands of Anthony Joshua. Unfortunately, Chisora hasn’t enjoyed the same level of success. He’s won just seven of his last 13 fights, including consecutive losses to Joseph Parker. Despite these setbacks, Chisora is still confident that he has more fight left to give.
Matchroom Sport’s Eddie Hearn has announced that Derek Chisora and Kubrat Pulev will return for a second installment of their saga. On July 9, 2022, Chisora and Pulev will participate in a 10-round bout at London’s O2 Arena.
“Initially we worked on some other opponents for Derek, but this fight came out of nowhere a few days ago and I absolutely love it,” Hearn said, according to Bad Left Hook.
“I think the strapline, ‘Total Carnage’, is absolutely perfect for this fight, in terms of the build-up and in terms of the fight itself. Expect the unexpected but expect a thriller. Both men have been longstanding fixtures of the heavyweight division and it’s all or nothing at for both, as defeat could lead to the end of the road. Fans can expect a huge undercard and a brilliant main event.”
