Denzel Washington‘s The Equalizer has debuted at number one at the box office.
The crime thriller made $35m during its first weekend in theaters, knocking The Maze Runner down to second place with $17.5m.
The Boxtrolls debuted at number three taking in over $17m, with This is Where I Leave You sitting at fourth place, while Dolphin Tale 2 sits at the fifth spot.
The US weekend box office top 10 for September 28 (studio estimates, all figures in US dollars) is as follows:
