The Ty Lawson saga has been going on for years. The average NBA fan wouldn’t know that but if you’re a Nuggets fan or you keep up with Nuggets news, you know that Ty Lawson has been a problem for years. His averages say that he’s a very underrated, top 5 point guard. But as we’re beginning to find out, he has some demons that he needs to take care of.
Josh Kroenke, Denver Nuggets President, has apparently been working with Lawson, trying to give him some help so his life can be a little better off the court.
Kroenke said he had repeated conversations with Lawson about his “life struggles,” adding that Lawson often said he would attempt to fix his issues but he could “never fully shake them.”
“He always had an affinity for burning the candle at both ends,” Kroenke said. “We want to give our players freedom to be young guys as well. We’re not going to be drill sergeants. But we want our guys to be able to handle their personal lives on their own.
“Ty … there were times when he was better than others. But the problems have been there for several years, going back to when we were having a lot of on-court success. I don’t want to go back too far. There were just a lot of times where you were at practice and you just know. You could smell it. You know there is probably deeper issues than he would probably let on.”
He does sound truly troubled. I hope that the Rockets read this and gain some urgency, to help him in anyway possible.
It’s weird how you see a guy do so well individually on the court but then you read things like these. It’s kind of sad thinking about it. But he’s in a new place, he’s getting sober and I think that his new self will be good for him and great for the Rockets.
