I am going to find this offseason very interesting. More interesting than usual. Why is this year so special you ask? Well it’s not a matter of ‘special’. It’s a matter of choice.
Ever since the Boston Celtics. The most storied franchise in the NBA, hired Brad Stevens. A young, previously a College coach. People thought that it would take him ages to get acclimated to the NBA and all that. But even though he’s managed a team that has been so in flux. And totally over achieved to make the Playoffs. Other teams are looking at that crazy rise and go “Oh my. We got to get ourself a College coach”.
Even though we always get rumors of teams maybe going for a College coach. It’s usually nothing more than a rumor. But this year seems different. So thanks Brad Stevens.
Now. According to Yahoo! Sports. The Denver Nuggets are keeping their options open. With 6 coaches on their shortlist. And possibly more.
Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly and president Josh Kroenke plan a broad search with a candidate list that will include – among others – ex-head coaches Michael Malone, Mike D’Antoni, Scott Skiles and Alvin Gentry, league sources said.
Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach David Vanterpool will be one of a handful of assistant coaches contacted about the job, sources said.
The search will include several college coaching candidates, including Florida’s Billy Donovan and Iowa State’s Fred Hoiberg, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Another thing. Why are assistant coaches such a thing to avoid? Most of them spend countless years being the lieutenant but never the general. Why is this?
