North Carolina State freshman guard Dennis Smith Jr has declared for the 2017 NBA draft after just one year in college. It was an expected move for the guard out of Fayetteville North Carolina who was poised to be a “one and done” player in college.
Smith comes off a stellar personal year, but with next to nothing to show for team success for the guys in red at N.C. State. The Wolfpack finished with a 15-17 record which was only good for 13th in a competitive Atlantic Coast Conference. The team also parted ways with head coach Mark Gottfried in the process.
Many expected the 6 foot 3 inches guard to declare sooner than he did, but in a very classy move waited for the fanfare of new head coach Kevin Keatts signing to die down first. Smith had an outstanding year for the Wolfpack posting 18.1 points per game, 6.2 assists per game, and 4.6 rebounds per game. He simply did a little bit of everything for his team and won ACC freshman of the year honors.
Dennis Smith Jr is now preparing himself for the NBA draft process and with as talented as he is will make an NBA team jubilant when that time comes. Smith is projected to go in the top 10, and some mocks even place him as a potential top 5 draft pick. Just another talented prospect from the state of North Carolina ready to make an impact at the next level.
He faced a tough year with the Wolfpack, but he came through it no worse for wear and had the stats to back it up as well. His NBA career is about to get started, and it has the chance to be an amazing ride for Dennis Smith Jr.
