Dennis Schroder and Dwight Howard had a very public war of words in the middle of the Hawks game against the Golden State Warriors on Monday. It was not only public because it was done on a televised NBA game but because it happened right before Steph Curry drained a three because of their confusion.
“Ohh you guys are busy arguing? Cool I’ll just flush a three” – Steph Curry

After this embarrassing incident, the head coach of the Atlanta Hawks, Mike Budenholzer, yanked Dennis Schroder from the game. This occurred with about 8 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and Schroder never got on the court again.
According to ESPN Dennis Schroder had this to say about getting benched,
“I don’t understand Coach’s decision,” he said. “Maybe I’m too competitive, I don’t know. I’m just trying to be competitive, trying to win games. But I don’t get that one.”
Budenholzer remained relatively vague when answering questions regarding the benching but did bring up one reason Schroder never saw playing time again,
“We need to learn to play together and stay together for 48 minutes,” he said. “That’s something that’s very important to us.”
Playing together and consistently has been an issue for the Hawks all season long, who just may be the most head-scratching top 5 seed in a long time.
