When his illustrious NBA career concluded prior to 2000, it was made clear that former Spur, Piston, and Bull Dennis Rodman had some major vices, including his frequent consumption of alcohol. Though it’s now 18 years later, Rodman finds himself still running into problems thanks to his prolonged alcoholism, a condition for which he even went to rehab for just years back in 2014.
According to CNN, Rodman was arrested and charged for a DUI in California on Sunday night:
Basketball Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman was arrested in California on Saturday night and charged with driving under the influence.
Rodman was initially pulled over for a traffic violation in Newport Beach, according to Newport Beach police Lt. Rachel Johnson.
The 56-year-old failed a breathalyzer test given on scene, Johnson said, and was arrested and booked around 11:00 p.m. Rodman spent the night in jail and was released early Sunday. He was completely cooperative, Johnson said.
The arrest falls in line with his history of alcohol abuse, as this is something Dennis Rodman has struggled with since retirement and is clearly still working on. Though alcohol has been prevalent in Rodman’s life for years now, the legal repercussions that may come with this recent arrest are something he should be worried about.
According to TMZ, Rodman was already on probation from a 2016 traffic incident, making jail time a real possibility for the 5-time NBA champion:
Dennis Rodman’s DUI problems have gone from bad to worse … because he was on probation during his arrest on Saturday — and it likely means he’ll be thrown in the slammer.
The probation stems from a plea deal Rodman struck over a July 2016 wrong way crash — where he was going the wrong way on an Orange County, CA freeway, struck a car and allegedly fled the scene. Witnesses also saw him drinking at a karaoke bar before the crash but he was not charged with DUI for that incident.
However, Rodman was placed on 3 years probation with the condition he stay out of trouble.
These legal issues are the last thing Rodman needed with himself still trying to right his wrongs from his recent 2016 arrest. With jail time a legitimate concern in this scenario, it remains to be seen how this legal process will unfold for the troubled Hall-of-Famer.
