This is a devastating injury for any player, but especially for Cousins, who has struggled to get back to his former, All-Star-level self after recovering from a torn left Achilles and a left quadriceps tear, both within the past two years.
Cousins signed a small, one-year deal with the Golden State Warriors last summer in an attempt to prove himself and get a bigger contract the next offseason.
But it didn’t work out as he had hoped, as his performance didn’t convince any teams to throw him a big deal. He ended up signing a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers this summer.
Cousins wasn’t bad by any means in his 30 games as a Warrior. He averaged 16.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1. 5 blocks and 1.3 steals in 25.7 minutes per game, although he only shot 27.4% from 3-point range.
In the playoffs, he played only 16.6 minutes per game and offered the Warriors a mixed bag of performances. He peaked in a win against the Toronto Raptors in the finals, when he put up 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, and scored in double figures three times in the Finals. In the playoffs, he averaged 7.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 39.6 from the field and 25% from deep.
