The Sacramento Kings have yet to be able to put everything together to take the next step. Despite a pretty sizable improvement, the 8-15 Kings seem like they should be better. That has been especially evident recently with the team having won only two of their last seven games.
The team’s star center DeMarcus Cousins think that his own play is the biggest problem, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst:
I’ve been playing like s—, man. That is our problem. It is me. I’ve been playing like absolute s—. I don’t want to make any excuses. I’ve been playing like s—. No other excuse.
Tell us how you really feel, DeMarcus. Cousins has had some struggles recent, perhaps partially due to some nagging injuries. This sort of leadership is what the Kings have been waiting for Cousins to show. It is a far cry from the player who cursed out head coach George Karl in the locker room following a loss. There have been numerous reports about Cousins being a hot-head and bad teammate but this shows a very high level of leadership and the Kings should be happy with seeing that.
Cousins, meanwhile, is not getting too down on his play and he is ready to get back to his superstar-level:
I’ve never been in a stretch like this. I have to stay positive, stay together and get in the gym. I know it’s a mental thing right now. It’s hard getting the rhythm when you’re not seeing the ball go through the basket
Call me crazy, but I think he’ll get that rhythm back sooner rather than later.
