DeMarcus Cousins has developed a reputation as a villain and “bad-boy” in the NBA, sometimes justifiably so. However, the Sacramento Kings’ star center has also shown a completely different side off the court. In the ending to a very tragic story, Cousins comes out as a true hero.
16 year old Jaulon Clavo, a senior student and football player at Grant Union High School was shot and killed while driving in a car with four teammates. Cousins who has reportedly previously made donations to the school, has decided to pay for the funeral expenses of Clavo as a gesture of good will. This act of kindness was confirmed to the media by city council member Rick Jennings, who also mentioned that Cousins had wanted his gesture to remain anonymous.
Cousins has long been known as a hothead and someone who does not get along with others. However, this act of kindness which he planned on keeping a secret shows a different side to the maligned big man.
Our thoughts are with the family of Jaulon Clavo as they recover from this tragedy.
