It appears, at least for now, that DeMarco Murray will be suiting up in Philadelphia next season.
According to NFL media’s Albert Breer the Eagles and Murray have agreed to a financial deal worth over $40 million over the next five years with $20 million guaranteed. Murray, the current offensive player of the year, is visiting Philadelphia today and if everything goes as planned, he will sign with the team.
Expect the Eagles newly acquired Sam Bradford to be a big selling point for Murray as he was not only Murray’s college teammate but his roommate as well. Bradford, who Murray called, “one of his best friends,” had this to say about Murray,
“Absolutely. I’ve been trying my hardest. I’ve called him. I’ve texted him. I’ve done everything. We’ve been in communication. If we can somehow land him, it would be a great pickup. Not only is he a great player, he’s a great person. He’s a really close friend of mine, too. I think he can really help this ball club.”
It was expected that the running back would return to Dallas but after turning down several offers it appears the Cowboys have given up. As running backs like Marshawn Lynch hit pay days, the Cowboys dropped farther off of Murray’s radar. The team just didn’t have the cap room to give him the kind of deal he wanted.
If Murray decides to sign in Philly you can expect that the deal Ryan Mathews agreed to will fall off the table. Murray is most likely the reason the franchise was dragging their feet with the former Charger.
Of course Murray, the Eagles, or Mathews can still change their minds. As we’ve learned earlier this week with the Eagles and Frank Gore nothing is official until pen meets paper.
