Universal Music has launched a Vietnam branch of Def Jam. The new branch will focus on Vietnamese hip-hop culture and rap music. This is the latest foray into the region’s music scene. Previously, Def Jam has launched efforts in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia.
“It’s an extremely exciting time for hip-hop in Vietnam, and we are committed to connect and contribute to the hip-hop community at large,” Def Jam Southeast Asia Managing Director Joe Flizzow said.
“I’m looking forward to working with all these amazing and talented artists as well as [on] collaborations and tours.”
Kicking off the region’s efforts, Def Jam Vietnam has partnered with artists like Obito, SeaChains and Right. Over the years, Rap and R&B artists from the region such as Joji, Yung Raja and Fariz Jabba have climbed the ranks of the music industry.
In the U.S., the label continues to have a major presence with a lineup that includes Nas, 2 Chainz and Kanye West.
