The Commission on Presidential Debates has agreed to stronger health and safety precautions for the upcoming Vice Presidential Debate.
For the first debate between Vice President Mike Pence and Senator Kamala Harris, participants will stand 12 feet apart instead of the previously suggested seven-foot distance. Despite a late push from the Biden-Harris campaign, candidates will stand during the debate rather than sit.
Changes to health and safety regulations during the debate come as Capitol Hill experiences a COVID-19 outbreak. Eleven people who attended the first presidential debate have tested positive for COVID-19 including the President and First Lady.
Currently, President Donald Trump is hospitalized at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Doctors have indicated that he could be discharged as early as today.
In light of the recent outbreak, both former Vice President and Senator Kamala Harris were both tested for COVID-19. Both candidates have reportedly tested negative for the virus.
